Hi! I'm Jos Heesen and playing with chess pieces and computers are my favourite pastimes. I'll try to combine the two while maintaining these pages.
I play chess over the board at my club De Rode Loper (The Red Bishop) located in Utrecht (NL) and edit/maintain their home-page.
I'm also the editor of schaak.pagina.nl. A famous Dutch 'starting page' with lots of chess related links.
I play snail-mail chess at the Nederlandse Bond voor Correspondentieschakers (NBC). The NBC is a member of the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF).
I play e-mail chess at the International E-mail Chess Group (IECG).
At this very moment I'm playing in the WSV Open. A friendly email tournament. You can follow the results on the WSV Homepage.
I play on-line chess, as JHW, at the Free Internet Chess Server.
I also play on-line chess, as Redbishop, at Chessed and Game Colony.
I play YOU if you sent your first move by e-mail to: jhw.heesen@hccnet.nl .
Or come to the (dutch) Email schaak pagina.
Chess Masters Webring
A webring is a wonderful idea! Several home pages with a similar subject are linked together in a 'ring' and you can 'walk' this ring using the options in the graphic below.
As you can guess the subject of the Chess Masters Webring is : Chess!

Here you find the links to some of my chessgames which I consider to be my masterpieces... So far there are only two, but one of these days...
My columns in De Balans (to be continued...)
Here you find the links to some of my columns I wrote for De Balans, the magazine of my club "De Rode Loper".

My worldchampionship
The International Correspondence Chess Federation ('snailmail') organizes several types of tournaments.
My personal favourite type of ICCF tournament is the Thematic.
Why is that ? you might ask.
Well, it has something to do with the desire to get your name in print and thus become known or even immortal (isnt the same true for publishing these pages on the Web ?).
The idea is that, since you know exactly what opening will be played, you can prepare yourself in depth. During this preparation you have to browse through some age-old theory and might come up with a move that refutes a line given by Lasker or Alekhine. If so, all games you played with that new move would be published in all important Chess periodicals all over the world and your name would finally end up in all novelty of the year lists Imagine how this would boost your ego!
But one day you have to wake up and face reality : after analysing a dozen games in the Schliemann-Jaenisch database I compiled, I realised that Lasker and Alekhine were right after all
I played in several thematic tournaments (see my Kaartschaak (3) column (in Dutch!)), but only reached the finals in the Schliemann-Jaenisch thematic tournament. Since players from all over the world started in the preliminaries, the winner of the finals could call himself (or herself) :
Worldchampion Schliemann-Jaenisch
Underneath is the 'thematic position' for the Schliemann-Jaenisch; all games in the tournament started from this position...
(Position after : 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5 4.Nc3 fxe4 5.Nxe4 d5 6.Nxe5 dxe4 7.Nxc6...)
Now that I've finished all games in the finals, I would like to share my experiences in this specific line with you, dear reader/surfer:
Do you have any games played with the Schliemann-Jaenisch (from the position in the diagram above)? Or do you have any ideas, suggestions or analysis on this line? Please let me know : jhw.heesen@hccnet.nl
My favourite chess links
Now that I maintain schaak.pagina.nl, a 'starting page' with lots of chess related links, I've put all my favourite chess links on that page.
